ABA feedback skills can support asking for feedback, understanding a specific observation, requesting an example, deciding whether and how to revise, and checking the result. Feedback should be invited or part of a clearly explained role, accessible, relevant, and respectful. The person can question vague information, decline unnecessary personal criticism, and seek another qualified source when the issue exceeds the speaker's authority.

Define the feedback agreement

State the task, who may comment, when feedback occurs, which outcomes matter, and how the person can pause or ask for another format. Separate routine coaching from clinical, school, workplace, safety, or relationship decisions owned by other roles.

Make feedback observable and usable

Describe what happened, where and when, the agreed expectation, and one possible next step. Avoid labels about attitude, motivation, personality, or effort. Offer an example, model, record, or side-by-side comparison when useful.

Support questions and choice

Provide messages such as show me, which step, what is the source, can I try another way, I need time, and I disagree. A person may understand feedback and still choose a different valid method or seek clarification from the proper authority.

Apply ethical boundaries

The Ethics Code addresses understandable communication, client involvement, assent when applicable, competence, and evaluation. ASHA supports AAC access. The TCO includes feedback in supervision content; it does not make every interaction supervision.

A practical example

Felix requests feedback on five cooking setups. The reviewer gives a specific observation and accessible example in 4/5. Felix asks a question in three cases and chooses a revision in 3/4 usable feedback cases. Measure feedback quality and response separately.

Questions families can use

Was feedback invited or clearly part of the role? Is it specific and sourced? Can the person ask questions, disagree, or pause? Does the speaker have authority? Is any revision chosen and useful?
