ABA video modeling privacy starts before recording. Identify the purpose, people shown, legal authority, consent and assent process when applicable, device, storage location, viewers, access log, retention period, editing, reuse, sharing, and deletion method. A service agreement or treatment consent may not authorize every recording or later use. Families can request a live model or purpose-built fictional demonstration when video controls are unclear.

Map ABA video modeling privacy fields

Use a recording-specific record. The BACB outline identifies modeling as examination content without creating recording authority. State whether footage is clinical documentation, a teaching aid, staff training material, or another category, who owns it, and what happens when participation ends.

Minimize the capture

Record only the people, setting, sound, identifiers, and duration needed for the approved purpose. Check backgrounds, screens, voices, badges, schedules, and bystanders. Use an approved secure system rather than a personal device.

Separate viewing from reuse

The Ethics Code addresses confidentiality, privacy, consent, documentation, and risk for covered people. The CASP public summary provides high-level individualized treatment scope. Neither creates blanket recording permission.

Test deletion and access

Confirm authorized viewers can retrieve the correct version and unauthorized roles cannot. Verify deletion from active storage, shared folders, exports, and backups as the governing rule permits. Record any withdrawal or incident route.

Example and family questions

Mila approves a close-up hand-only clip stored in the clinical platform for 30 days. A personal phone and staff-training reuse are outside the approval. Ask: Which authority applies? Who can view or export it? What proves deletion?
