Practice spacing should protect AAC and motor access on every trial and every day. Check the primary and backup communication system, positioning, reach, device charge, sensory conditions, fatigue, pain, partner wait time, and acceptable response forms before scoring. A longer gap may change device setup or motor readiness, while a massed session may increase fatigue. Keep system readiness, client responses, and invalid opportunities in separate denominators.

Document device placement, backup method, access technique, vocabulary, motor support, seating, sensory support, rest, response window, and partner action. Confirm who prepares each support across sites and days.
Watch both spacing risks
Distributed sessions can create inconsistent equipment and partners. Massed sessions can accumulate fatigue, pain, or motor effort. Ask the person which signs indicate comfort, pause, help, change, and stop, and act on them.
Keep the comparison valid
Score a client response only when the required access conditions are ready. If a device is missing or positioning is unsafe, record a system failure or invalid opportunity according to the plan. Do not convert it into an incorrect response.
Use sources in scope
ASHA says AAC users should always have access to their tools or devices. The Ethics Code addresses nondiscrimination, medical needs, client involvement, and risk. The BACB outline covers representative measurement and contextual fit.
A practical example
Noah has 16 scheduled opportunities across four days. AAC and positioning are ready for 13/16. Independent responding is 9/13 ready opportunities. The report shows 13/16 system readiness and 9/13 client responding instead of presenting 9/16 as one blended score.

Who prepares AAC and motor supports? Does readiness vary by day? Is fatigue measured? Which response forms count? How are missing supports separated from client performance?
