ABA home service visit skills can support verifying the company and appointment, reviewing the planned work, deciding who may enter, preparing an accessible communication method, protecting private spaces and information, recording arrival and departure, checking completed work, and reporting unexpected changes. The resident, property owner, landlord, contractor, and local rules have different authority, so the plan should identify each decision owner.

Verify the appointment before opening the door

Confirm the company through an independently found number or resident portal. Match the worker, date, arrival window, address, work order, and expected scope. For an unexpected visitor, pause at the door and contact the company, landlord, building office, or chosen supporter through the known route. FTC scam guidance supports independent verification of unexpected requests.

Define entry and communication choices

Record who can authorize entry, whether an adult must be present, which rooms are included, and how arrival will be announced. Keep AAC and other communication access available. A prepared card can state the problem, access needs, questions, boundaries, and preferred way to receive updates.

Protect privacy and property

Secure unrelated records, keys, financial information, medications, devices, and private belongings. Share only information needed for the visit. Photographing the work area may help when permitted; avoid recording people without the consent and legal basis required in that location.

Handle scope or payment changes

The FTC repair guidance recommends written estimates and careful contract review, and warns about pressure and full upfront payment. If the worker proposes new work, financing, cash payment, or an unknown subcontractor, route the decision to the person with authority and record the change before proceeding.

A practical example

Tariq prepares for five scheduled visits. Four have a verified provider, matching work order, entry decision, communication plan, and post-visit record. One arrives under a different company name. Visit readiness is 4 of 5; the unmatched worker waits outside while the property manager verifies the relationship.

Questions families can use

Ask who scheduled the visit, how the provider was verified, who controls entry, what work is authorized, which information is necessary, how the person communicates stop or concern, what confirms completion, and how unexpected changes are routed. ABA home service visit skills include a safe way to pause.
