Autism evaluations for all ages

Evaluations tailored to who you are.

01Children

For my child

You may be wondering whether differences in communication, play, learning, routines, or sensory needs are worth asking about. Sometimes a teacher or pediatrician raises the question first.

02Teens

For my teen

Your teen may have questions about school, friendships, independence, sensory needs, or masking. They may describe parts of daily life that other people do not see.

03Adults

For me or another adult

Maybe autism has been in the back of your mind for a while. You may be wondering whether it explains patterns in relationships, routines, sensory experiences, or masking.

What an evaluation can answer

Could it be autism?

Questions?

Before you get started.

Do I need to be certain that it is autism?

No, you can still be figuring that out. You might have been wondering about autism for years, or a recent conversation with a teacher, pediatrician, or someone close to you may have raised the question. An evaluation gives you a chance to talk through what you’ve noticed in yourself or your child, including anything you’re unsure how to explain. Your clinician will consider those experiences and help you understand whether autism could explain them.

What happens during an autism evaluation?

The clinician will spend time learning about what you’ve noticed and what everyday life is like for you or your child. You may talk about communication, relationships, routines, sensory experiences, and how those patterns have shown up over time. They’ll also ask about early development and consider what they learn to understand whether it points to autism. You can bring up examples that are hard to explain or that other people may not have noticed.

Does my child or teen take part?

Your child or teen’s own experiences are an important part of the evaluation. How they take part depends on their age, how they communicate, and the evaluation format. Parents and caregivers can share what they’ve noticed at home and in other settings. Teens may also want to talk about experiences that the adults around them have not seen. Our care team can explain who needs to attend and what to expect before the appointment.

What happens if the result is not autism?

Not every evaluation leads to an autism diagnosis. If yours doesn’t, you can ask your clinician to explain what they found and how they reached that conclusion. There may still be things you want help with, so bring up any questions that feel unresolved. You can also talk about their recommendations and whether another kind of assessment or support is worth exploring.

How do I check insurance coverage and cost?

You can ask about cost before deciding whether to schedule. Our care team can talk through your insurance plan and payment options with you. You may want to ask what portion your plan covers, whether a deductible or copay applies, and whether anything needs approval in advance. Your insurer can also help confirm these details so you have a better idea of what you may need to pay.
